Scripture Union Daily Guide 6th June 2026 – Outline
This chapter is not a chronological report of David’s victorious wars. Military operations from all parts of David’s reign are included, not necessarily in any specific order of their occurrence. All of the old enemies of Israel, the Philistines, Amalekites, Syrians, Edomites, Moabites, and Ammonites were defeated and made to pay tributes to the king of Israel.
V.6b however shows the secret of his success which is repeated in v.14b for emphasis. But notice the attributes of David that endeared him to God (1 Samuel 13:14; 2 Samuel 6:13-15; 12:13-17; 24:24). Little wonder God supported him all the way. Are you similarly devoted to God?
Whatever God says, He will do. God had promised to establish the house of David and here, we see Him at work through conquests of all the enemy nations. Thus, it is not the superior military might of David, nor the overwhelming size of his armies, nor the genius of his strategy that resulted in these amazing victories, but the finger of God.
All the gold, silver, bronze and other precious articles which David acquired from the nations conquered were dedicated to God (vs.11-12). What can we learn from this singular action of David? What is the significance of v.15?
So what? We should depend on God to fight our battles, and our victories must be dedicated to Him.
Prayer: Lord, help me never to depend on my victories, but to acknowledge you through it all.
PRAYER FOR THE WEEK:
Pray for the physically challenged, that God in his mercy will heal and restore them.
